China exported 2.061 million tons of rice in January – August 2019, up about 71% from 1.202 million tons in the corresponding period in 2018, according to the China General Administration of Customs.
In terms of value, China exported $770 million worth rice in eight months, up about 51% from $510 million in 2018.
In August 2019, China exported 248,195 tons of rice worth $90 million. Turkey was the largest importer of Chinese rice in August 2019 with 36,500 tons followed by Niger (35,627 tons), Senegal (32,000 tons), Sierra Leone (20,000 tons), Cameroon (20,000 tons), Korea (47,139 tons), Papua New Guinea (11,687 tons), and others (45,243 tons).
In August 2019, China imported 124,563 tons of rice. Myanmar was the largest exporter to China in August 2019 with 54,971 tons followed by Vietnam (24,563 tons), Pakistan (12,452 tons), Thailand (16,085 tons), Laos (9,341 tons), Cambodia (5,873 tons), and others (1,279 tons).
China imported 1.522 million tons of rice in January – August 2019, up 29% y/y from 1.177 million tons January – August 2018. In terms of value, China imported $778 million worth of rice, up from $631million the same period in 2018.
